To strengthen our team in Lausanne, Switzerland, we are looking for a ## Software Developer # Job Tasks The software developer will be part of our IT team and will be the lead developer for Cellosaurus, the knowledge resource on cell lines used internationally by SIB, while performing a range of IT development work including back-end services and applications across the SIB portfolio. The person will develop, operate, and maintain software systems with a strong focus on research data quality, semantic interoperability, and long-term maintainability. They will contribute to software architecture decisions and act as the primary technical contact for Cellosaurus stakeholders. The selected candidate will play a key role in knowledge exchange with the IT team and scientific groups to share best practices. The mission of the software developer will be: • Serve as the technical point of reference for Cellosaurus, in coordination with the team leader, curators, and the broader IT team • Development and maintenance of the website, REST APIs, semantic web services, and other online tools • Creation of data management tools and data validation • Actively stay up to date with web development tools and methods • Ensure maintenance of tools and support for end users as needed • Write or participate in writing documentation (user documentation, software documentation) Work location: Geneva with a regular presence in Lausanne (2 days per month) Required Profile • Minimum 5 years of experience in software development projects Essential • Solid experience in Python for back-end services and data processing (FastAPI, Django or Flask) • Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL / MariaDB) and SQL • Practical experience with Git • Proficiency in working under Linux with web servers (Nginx, Apache) Important Assets • SPARQL, RDF, and semantic web technologies (triplestores, ontologies, OWL) • Experience with the PHP stack: Laravel, Drupal • Front-end web development tools: JavaScript / CSS (Tailwind CSS), npm, and Vite.js • Docker and containerized deployment; CI/CD pipelines • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) and the ability to integrate them effectively into a software development workflow • Knowledge of JVM languages (Java, Scala) • Full-text search engines (Solr or Meilisearch) • Experience in a scientific or research data context, ideally in life sciences or bioinformatics Behavioral Skills • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills • Analytical and problem-solving skills • Ability to work autonomously and take initiative • Attention to detail and commitment to quality • Proficiency in English and French • Good written and oral communication skills How to apply The SIB is committed to ensuring and promoting diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace as well as in the scientific ecosystem.
