AWS Backend Developer

What you can achieve

• You develop and operate modern data pipelines on AWS from raw data ingestion to the curated data layer.
• Together with the team, you implement batch and streaming solutions with Apache Spark on AWS Glue and EMR Serverless as well as Apache Kafka.
• You actively participate in the further development of our data lakehouse architecture with Apache Iceberg, AWS Lake Formation and Amazon Athena.
• Using AWS Step Functions and Amazon EventBridge, you orchestrate complex data and processing workflows.
• You make an important contribution to the high quality and stability of the platform through monitoring, observability and automated controls.
• You use CloudWatch, Grafana and OpenLineage in a targeted manner to ensure transparency and traceability throughout the entire data processing.
• Together with internal stakeholders, you accompany solutions from initial design through implementation to operation following the principle "You build it, you run it".

What you bring with you

• Several years of experience in developing productive data pipelines with Scala (2.12) and Apache Spark (3.x) distinguishes you; in doing so, you know best practices for performant, testable and maintainable applications with Scalatest, Scalafmt and ScalaFix.
• Sound knowledge of SQL and Apache Iceberg enables you to handle ACID transactions, table formats and schema evolution in modern data lakehouse architectures with confidence.
• In the AWS environment, you have practical experience with at least three relevant data services such as AWS Glue, Amazon EMR Serverless, Amazon Athena, AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, Amazon S3 or AWS Lake Formation.
• You describe and manage cloud infrastructures with Terraform (from version 1.2) and bring a good understanding of the entire Infrastructure-as-Code lifecycle.
• Ideally, you have already been able to gain experience with Apache Kafka, OpenLineage, AWS Lake Formation or modern monitoring and reporting solutions such as Grafana, Amazon QuickSight or Power BI.
• Joy in working with interdisciplinary teams, an independent way of working and the ability to communicate technical matters in an understandable way round off your profile.
• You communicate confidently in German or French; you use English securely in the technical environment.
