Start of work 01.10.2026 or by arrangement Employment relationship 9 months Institute / Place of work Software Engineering Group (https://seg.inf.unibe.ch/) About the VetAnaLog project VetAnaLog - Structured Data Capture and AI-Assisted Reporting for Veterinary Anaesthesia is an interdisciplinary research project at the intersection of software engineering, clinical informatics, the integration of medical device data, and generative artificial intelligence. As part of the project, a system primarily developed for tablets is being built, which integrates physiological monitoring data, enables the rapid recording of medications and clinical events, and uses a Large Language Model (LLM) to create structured anesthesia reports. The resulting data will be stored in a format based on FHIR and is intended to serve as a basis for future machine learning research in the field of veterinary anesthesia. The project is a collaboration between med. vet. Sarah Rebecca Meyer and Dr. Sebastiano Panichella from the Software Engineering Group of the University of Bern, as well as Prof. Dr. Regula Bettschart-Wolfensberger from the Department of Anesthesiology of the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Zurich. Your tasks include: • Development of the pipeline for data collection and structured data processing • Implementation of the tablet user interface for clinical staff • Participation in the LLM-based pipeline for report generation and verification • Support with system testing, deployment, and evaluation during the clinical pilot phase at the Tierspital Zürich <br /> Your profile We are looking for a motivated Master's student or a person with a recently completed degree in the fields of computer science, software engineering, medical informatics, data science, or a related field. You bring the following: • Good programming skills, especially in Python; experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, Dart/Flutter, SQL, or comparable technologies is an advantage • Solid understanding of fundamental principles and practices of software engineering, including version control with Git • Experience with or interest in LLMs, frontend/mobile development, databases, health data standards such as FHIR, or data engineering is an advantage A veterinary or medical background is not required.
